Delhi pollution: 'Red light on vehicle off' campaign begins today

Environment marshals and traffic police officials will urge drivers to turn off their vehicles to win the war over increasing pollution in the capital. For the first three days, these marshals will give roses to those who do not shut down the car at red lights.

New Delhi: Delhi Government launched a campaign to control pollution arising out of vehicles under which commuters will be encouraged to switch off vehicles while waiting for the lights to turn green at traffic signals.

This campaign will be started by Environment Minister Gopal Rai himself. The government is continuously campaigning against the increasing pollution in Delhi.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai himself said during a press conference at the Delhi Secretariat that to eliminate dust pollution, frequent inspections are being done, fines are being imposed and this will continue. Now the second phase of the war, against pollution is beginning.

According to Rai, from today on-ground campaign of red light on, car off is starting in Delhi, which will run till November 15.

He informed that on Friday, an important meeting of officials of the Transport Department, Traffic Police, Environment Department, Revenue Department, etc. was held. The traffic police have handed over a list of 100 red lights of Delhi to us. This campaign will be an awareness campaign, no challan will be issued. The campaign will run from 8 am to 8 pm.

Two and a half thousand environment marshals are being appointed on 100 red lights who will stand at the intersection with T-shirt, cap, play card and stand.

For the first three days, these marshals will give roses to those who do not shut down the car at red lights.

The environment minister appealed to all the RWA, Market Association, Eco Club, Industrial Organization, NGO, Officers and Employees Association and Trade Union to support this movement.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Raghav Chadha also campaigned 'Red light on, car off' campaign at the signal of Rajendra Place metro station. Raghav, who arrived with his supporters, appealed to the drivers to stop the vehicle. He told that as the ocean fills with drop by drop, this little effort to stop the car at a red light will help us win this big war against pollution.
