New Delhi: After the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha on the formation of Sri Ram Janambhumi Teertha Khestra Trust, many opposition parties have raised questions on the timing of the announcement.

Talking exclusively to ETV Bharat, Communist Party of India (CPI) national general secretary D Raja hit out at the timing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement about setting up of a trust for the construction of a Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Raja said that the announcement was made when Delhi election is just around the corner, there is a political advantage in it.

CPI questions timing of PM's announcement

"Why the announcement now! Prime Minister Narendra Modi may justify his announcement that the decision was taken keeping in mind Supreme Court's order, but when Delhi is having an election in next few days, such announcement could be done later," said D Raja.

In fact, Congress and other opposition parties too have raised question on the timing of the announcements.

The AIMIM chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that the session of the Parliament will end on February 11, "the announcement could have come after February 8...seems like BJP is worried over Delhi election."

Meanwhile, Raja also demanded the immediate release of political leaders currently in "house arrest" in Jammu & Kashmir.

"It's more than six months the political leaders in J&K are still in house arrest. Why so? If there is peace in J&K, why they are still under house arrest," said Raja.

He said that Former J&K Chief Minister and sitting Lok Sabha MP Farooq Abdullah is still in custody.
