New Delhi: The wrestlers protest entered the 13th day today, while farmer leader Rakesh Tikait reached Jantar Mantar on Thursday and announced that representatives of khap panchayats (caste councils) of Haryana-Uttar Pradesh will come here to extend their support on May 7. He said khap panchayats were held at several places in these two states to press for the demand of the protesters yesterday.

He alleged that the Delhi Police misbehaved with the protesting wrestlers on the guise of bringing beds. "Such attitude will not be tolerated under any circumstances. They even went to the extent of snapping off the electricity and water supply connections of these children. Now, a conspiracy is being hatched to turn this movement to give it a caste angle. The effort is simply aimed at weakening the movement," Tikait said.

The prominent leader said that the protesting wresters were the daughters of the country and their identities were not the castes they belonged to. "These are our children. They are the one who made the country proud. So, it is our responsibility to protect them," he said while urging the Delhi Police to ensure that they don't get hurt. He said it was the reponsibility of the police to see to it that no anti-socials cause harm to these wresters, he said adding that the police have to be more cautious in ensuring their safety.

Earlier, taking to Twitter, Tikait had alleged that the Delhi Police had detained those who had gone to support the protesting wresters at Jantar Mantar on the behest of the Centre and demanded that they should be released. "At the behest of the government, the arrest of the wrestlers, farmers, journalists and youth of the country by the Delhi Police who went to support the country's wrestlers in this fight for justice will start a new revolution in the country. Delhi Police should immediately release the arrested people," he tweeted.
