New Delhi: Former Kolkata Police Commissioner, Rajeev Kumar, approached the Supreme Court today asking for an indefinite extension of time for him to seek anticipatory bail from the trial court in Saradha Chit fund scam considering that the West Bengal lawyers are on strike.
The bench comprising Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Sanjiv Khanna asked him to move before the Secretary-General for setting up a three-judge bench.
On Friday, Supreme Court had vacated the "interim protection " granted to him from arrest and had given 7 days of time to approach the appropriate forum and follow legal procedures in order to prevent himself from being arrested.
The CBI had pleaded to the apex court in April for vacating the "interim protection" order and allow them for custodial interrogation. Kumar was accused of not cooperating with the federal agency.
CBI has accused Rajeev Kumar of being involved in the Ponzi schemes. It alleges that Saradha and Rose Valley companies were flourishing when Kumar was the commissioner of Nagar Police Commisionerate from 2012-2015.
Kumar says that it's just a conspiracy by two powerful BJP leaders which hints at PM Modi and Amit Shah.
