New Delhi: Parts of the national capital were washed with rains on Monday causing some difficulty to commuters. Heavy rainfall was reported from parts of south and outer Delhi and Noida. Other areas of the national capital witnessed light rain. The minimum temperature in the capital was 19.6 degrees Celsius, six notches below the season's average.

The weather office forecast thunderstorms with rain during the day. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around the 26-degree Celsius mark. The city recorded a high of 26 degrees Celsius on April 4, 2015.

Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, heavy rain lashed isolated places in the eastern parts of the state while light to moderate rainfall occurred at several areas in the state during the past 24 hours, Met officials said on Monday. Tonk, Bundi and Nagaur also witnessed hailstorms, they said. The rainfall was triggered by a western disturbance.

Shahpura in Bhilwara received the highest rainfall at 7 cm, followed by Neemrana in Alwar at 6 cm and Khetri in Jhunjhunu at 5 cm during the 24 hours ended Monday morning. Several other places recorded rainfall below 5 cm during this period. The rainfall activity will increase further from Tuesday following the emergence of another western disturbance.

Earlier on Sunday, unseasonal showers, thunderstorms, gusty winds and hail hit parts of Madhya Pradesh due to a western disturbance and a trough, bringing a respite from the scorching heat in the summer season. Khajuraho in Chhatarpur district recorded 44.4 mm of rain in nine hours, while Bhopal city saw 35.1 mm of rainfall during the same period between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm.

In West Bengal, rains lashed southern parts of the state on Sunday with more showers in the forecast over the next three days owing to the formation of cyclonic circulations. Rains and gusty wind brought down day temperatures considerably in Kolkata and other neighbouring towns and cities. Due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over southwest Uttar Pradesh and another one over southern Chhattisgarh, and the moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, thunderstorms with lightning along with gusty wind are very likely in West Bengal till Wednesday.

In neighboring Bihar, heavy rains coupled with thunderstorms hit parts of the state on Sunday. More rains are likely in the state over the next two-three days. A Yellow alert for rain and thunderstorm has been issued in parts of the state on Monday. (With inputs from PTI)
