New Delhi: Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi made a heartfelt connection with porters at the bustling Anand Vihar Railway Station in Delhi on Thursday, demonstrating his empathy and solidarity with their laborious work. Gandhi engaged with the porters, donning the iconic red "coolie" shirt, and even lifted luggage on his head to get a first-hand experience of their toil.
The visit, which garnered significant attention on social media, was initiated in response to a viral video where the railway station's porters had expressed their desire to meet the Wayanad MP. With a warm smile, Gandhi accepted their invitation and arrived at the station to address their concerns.
In a video clip that quickly went viral, porters encircled Rahul Gandhi as they gently placed a trolley bag on his head. The scene was marked by a sense of camaraderie and unity as the Congress leader confidently carried the load, weaving his way through the crowd of porters who erupted in joyful chants of "Rahul Gandhi Zindabad." Another clip captured the moment when a porter tied a badge to his arm, symbolizing his solidarity with their labour.
During his visit, the 53-year-old leader engaged in extensive discussions with the porters to understand the issues they face in their daily lives. The Congress Party, in a statement, described Gandhi as the "People's Hero" and emphasized that he was there to lend a listening ear to the concerns of the hardworking porters.
"People's leader Rahul Gandhi met porters at Anand Vihar railway station in Delhi today. Recently, a video had gone viral in which the porters of the railway station had expressed their desire to meet him. Today, Rahul reached there and listened to them. Bharat Jodo journey continues," the party shared on social media.
Youth Congress president Srinivas BV also expressed his admiration for Rahul Gandhi's gesture by sharing the video of him carrying bags at the railway station. He accompanied the post with the song "Hum Mehnatkash Is Duniya Se" from the 1983 movie, Mazdoor, and captioned it as "People's Hero."
This visit is part of Rahul Gandhi's ongoing efforts to engage with various sections of society and understand their concerns. Previously, he met delivery workers in Bengaluru and even rode one of their scooters to get a feel for their challenges. He also visited the Azadpur Mandi in Delhi, where he interacted with vendors and labourers, further cementing his reputation as a leader willing to engage directly with the people he represents.
In recent months, Rahul Gandhi's interactions have extended to truck drivers, farmers, and various social groups. His unique journeys, whether by truck or tractor, reflect his commitment to connecting with the grassroots and addressing the issues that matter most to everyday Indians.
