New Delhi: Soon after the Congress MP Rahul Gandhi interacted with migrant workers, on Saturday, the party claimed that the Delhi police taken them into preventive custody as per the 'directions' received from the 'top'.
Rahul Gandhi hit the streets and interacted with a few migrant labourers near Sukhdev Vihar Flyover, in Delhi, who were returning back to their home states on foot. After that, in a statement, Congress party claimed that the police have detained those labourers in preventive custody saying that they have "directions from the top" to do so.
However, the police sources have completely denied the claim and said that a misinformation has been spread about the matter as those migrant labourers were still on the spot even after the Congress left the place.
As per the rules, the large group of migrant labours were not allowed to board a vehicle, which some Congress workers offered. However, small vehicles arranged for these migrant workers, by the Congress Party, to take them back to their home States.
Later, in a video released by Congress party, one of those migrant labourers explained that Rahul Gandhi listened to them about the problems which they are facing from the past 50 days of lockdown and also promised to make appropriate arrangements for them so that they can reach their home safely.
The Congress leader has remained continuously vocal about the migrant workers crisis while urging the government to ensure their safe return to their home states and also to provide them financial support in this period of crisis which has been arose due to coronavirus pandemic.
Earlier today, during a press conference, Rahul Gandhi requested to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider about the economic package of Rs 20 lakh crores and to put money directly into the hands of poor.
