New Delhi: Delhi Jal Board Vice Chairman Raghav Chadha on Saturday accused the Haryana government of supplying less water to Delhi which might result in a severe water crisis in the coming days. Addressing a presser at the Delhi Secretariat, Chadha informed that the normal water demand of Delhi was 900-920 MGD (Million Gallons of Water) per day but presently it has reached 945 MGD. He said that Haryana has been supplying about 120 million gallons less water per day, which has led to a water crisis in NDMC areas, central, south, and west Delhi.

Raghav Chadha said that Haryana gives water to Delhi through Yamuna, CLC, DSB and Wazirabad Talab but there is a big shortfall in the water supply in CLC and DSB while in Wazirabad it has reached zero as Haryana is releasing less water by 221 cusecs i.e. about 120 MGD. "There has been a reduction of 100 MGD in the three big water treatment plants in the national capital. In Chandrawal the production has come down from 90 MGD to 55 MGD whereas in Wazirabad it has come down from 135 MGD to 80 MGD. And in Okhla it has been reduced from 20 MGD to 15 MGD," Chadha said.

Launching a scathing attack on Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Chadha said that a total of 245 MGD should be produced in these three water treatment plants but due to reduced supply from Haryana, it has come down to 145 MGD. "The Haryana government has stopped the legal right of the people of Delhi and a big water crisis is looming on our heads. Due to acute shortage, supply of water to VIP regions including Supreme Court, Prime Minister's residence, Rashtrapati Bhavan and Embassy areas may be disrupted," he added.

The Delhi Jal Board Vice-Chairman also claimed to have sent 12 formal letters to the Haryana government and related officials and said "there has been no response" to them. Urging CM Khattar to look into the matter, Chadha said it is the drinking water of Delhiites and the Haryana government should not 'cut' its supply. He also said that BJP leaders should not leave any stone unturned to ensure water supply for the people of Delhi. Delhi government is also considering to move to the Supreme Court again on this matter, he added.
