New Delhi: After launching #SelfiewithSapling campaign, the Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar, along with Minister of State Babul Supriyo planted saplings at the Ministry of Environment as a part of World Environment Day celebrations and urged the people to do the same. The Union Minister also urged people to share their selfies along with their saplings to spread awareness about the World Environment Day.
Insisting that environmental protection has to be a people's movement, Javadekar announced that the Ministry will soon be going to launch a new scheme, 'School Nursery', in which students will be taught to plant a sapling and after one year, they will get back their grown plants as an award.
Javadekar also congratulated Union Minister Of Road Transport, Nitin Gadkari, for his decision to plant 125 crore plants on the sides of highways.
The event was also attended by Malini Awasthi, Kapil Dev, Jackie Shroff and Randeep Hooda.
"India played a very important role in last year's Paris convention. We are not taking care of our Earth in the manner we should. I think what we can do in connection to what we are celebrating today if we can go back home and plant at least one sapling. When the environment all around you will be full of pollution, that one sapling will take carbon dioxide and release oxygen for you," said MoS Babul Supriyo.
Many ministers took part in planting saplings on the occasion of the World Environment Day. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath planted saplings at his residence on Wednesday which also coincided with his birthday.
