New Delhi: A plea has been moved in the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Union of India and Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) to frame National Testing Policy for COVID-19 in order to contain the spread of the virus and the deaths due to it.
"Due to under testing of Covid-19 in India, the spread of the virus is increasing day by day. Several states are conducting nominal tests for COVID-19. There is no uniformity in testing COVID-19 suspected areas. It has become very difficult for the citizens to get themselves tested for COVID-19," the plea stated.
"Since there is under testing of COVID-19 in India, the pandemic is spreading rapidly resulting in large number of deaths. People who were facing health issues, elderly persons and poor who does not have immunity are becoming victims of COVID-19," contends the petitioner Dr Pentapati Pulla Rao.
Rao also informed through his PIL that he has made a representation before the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Health Minister Hardhvardhan and others.
The petitioner alleged that no action has been taken as of now. Earlier, a similar petition was filed in the apex court seeking mass testing for coronavirus.
