New Delhi: Parents of class 12th students who appeared in CBSE board examination have filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Supreme Court seeking directions to quash the CBSE notification of 18th May, which declared that board exams will resume from 1st July.

They prayed that the results of already conducted exams should be declared and calculation shall be done on an average basis with internal assessment marks of the remaining subjects.

According to reports, parents expressing their concern contend that as per the AIIMS data coronavirus would be at its peak in July which would expose a million students to the virus and would be arbitrary on part of the CBSE.

Further, they say that as per the 25th May's notification of HRD ministry, 15,000 exam centres would be used instead of 3000 used earlier, and to maintain cleanliness and safety standards across the country in centres would not only be risking health and life of children but also would be "an exercise in futility and an eyewash".

"This situation coupled with the fact that cases in India are rising dramatically and as on date there are almost 3,00,000 cases of COVID-19 patients. Moreover, even if it is to be assumed that 50% of the cases are asymptomatic then, the said students appearing for these could also be potential careers themselves posing a great risk to the other family members and themselves. Moreover, to assume that the students in the month of July where the temperature touches almost 45°C and humidity around with students wearing gloves and masks sitting in examination centres for 4 hours at stretch would be a task which would be completely hazardous to everyone," read the PIL.

Contending further, they said that many red and containment zones have been restricted from movement which means that students would not be permitted if he/she comes from the containment zone. The 20th May order of Home Ministry also declared that no examination would be conducted in those areas.
