One policeman gets infected every 20 minutes in Delhi: Statistics

According to police statistics, every 20 minutes a policeman is getting infected with the Covid-19 and during the last two months, 25 police personnel lost their lives.

New Delhi: Over 4,200 police personnel in Delhi tested positive for Coronavirus in the last two months and more than 11500 policemen have been hit by the virus till now, police said on Wednesday.

According to police statistics, every 20 minutes a policeman is getting infected with the Covid-19 and during the last two months, 25 police personnel lost their lives.

By the month of January, 34 policemen had lost their lives due to the deadly virus. Since March 2020, a total of 59 policemen have lost their lives due to Corona.

145 policemen of the Security Unit have been infected who were PSOs at the Lt. Governor's residence, Chief Minister's residence and VVIPs.

Even among the policemen posted in the security wing of the Prime Minister, 65 policemen have been infected with Covid-19. The districts have reported the highest number of 199 cases of infection from the North-West district. Apart from districts, cases of corona infection are also coming from Police Training schools, Crime Branch, Special Cell, and Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Recently, a special commissioner, 3 joint commissioners, and 6 district DCPs have also been infected with the virus. Apart from this, more than 100 policemen working in Delhi Police Headquarters have been infected with coronavirus in the past.

Deeming the ongoing situation, Police commissioner SN Srivastava has instructed the police officers of all the units to take care of the treatment of the policemen who get infected and help them get admitted to Covid-19 care center or hospital opened by Delhi Police.

Delhi reported 20,960 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases on Wednesday and 311 related fatalities which pushed the total number of cases in the city to 1,253,902 and the death toll to 18,063.
