New Delhi: The number of Delhi’s containment zones soared up to 242 as five new areas were added to the list after Delhi recorded the highest 1501 new positive Coronavirus cases taking the total to 32,810 cases.

The maximum containment zones are in the northern district where 35 places have been considered as the hot spots of Coronavirus. Also, 16 in New Delhi, 22 in North West Delhi, 32 in South Western Delhi, 29 in West Delhi, 19 in South East Delhi, 34 in South Delhi, 14 in Shahdara, 19 in East Delhi, 3 in North East Delhi. And there are 19 Containment Zones in Central Delhi.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed the coronavirus situation in Delhi which has seen a spurt in new cases in recent days. "He assured of all cooperation," Mr Kejriwal tweeted.

The meeting, at Mr Shah's residence, came a day after Mr Kejriwal tested negative for coronavirus after he went into self-isolation at his home following a bout of fever and throat pain.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Tuesday said infections will climb to 5.5 lakh by the end of July and it does not have the hospital capacity to handle such an outbreak.

Despite a vast lockdown imposed in March, the disease is spreading in India at one of the world's fastest rates as it re-opens a battered economy. Health experts say India's peak could still be weeks away, if not months.
