Newly born named after police constable in Delhi

A Delhi-based family has named newly born child after a Delhi Police constable Dayaveer Singh. The constable had helped the family to reach hospital on time as the woman was in labour pain.

New Delhi: In an encouraging turn of events, a family showing its gratitude towards a policeman named a newly born after him.

Dayaveer Singh, Delhi Police constable, helped a pregnant woman to reach hospital as she was experiencing labour pain and was about to deliver baby.The poor family, which lives in a slum of Wazirpur Industrial area here, had no means to reach hospital during the lockdown. They tried seeking help from people around and a neighbour informed the police.Dayaveer Singh asked to help the family concerned by his senior at the police station he is deployed at.Singh, without wasting a moment, reached the area and took the woman to Hindu Rao Hospital. The woman there delivered a healthy baby boy and after getting discharged from the hospital, the family again called up the police constable and he reached there soon after to take them back home.

Speaking to the ETV Bharat, the woman expressed her gratitude towards Delhi Police, saying Dayaveer Singh was very helpful and that's why we have named our child after him.

"He helped us a lot in the time of need. So we decided to name our child Dayaveer Singh," the woman said.


The constable also expressed happiness on hearing the news that the newly born child was given his name.

'It feels good. I am happy that I could help," he said, extending best wishes to the family on the occasion.
