JNU violence: New India 'registering FIR against victim', says Cong

After an FIR lodged against JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh and 19 others for vandalising the server room on the JNU campus, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera slammed BJP for their new tradition of registering FIR against the victim and marked the act as 'the policy for New India'.

New Delhi: Congress slammed the Central government over the FIRs registered against Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) President Aishe Ghosh, saying, "FIR registered against the victim and not the perpetrator of the crime, is the 'new norm' set by the centre."

After the masked goons attacked students and teachers on the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi Police has registered FIRs against the Present of JNUSU, Aishe Ghosh, who got injured during the violence, and 19 others for allegedly attacking security guards and vandalizing a server room on January 4.

While addressing the media, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, "An office-bearer of ABVP has accepted openly that they were having iron rods, acid, wooden sticks and pepper sprays with them. Even after that, Delhi Police registered FIR against Aishe Ghosh. This proves that it has become a new normal of registering FIRs against the victim and not the perpetrator of the crime."

He further added, "When your leadership acts in a manner which is divisive which tries to provoke one group against the other, which is unfair and unjust, what else would you expect Delhi Police to do? They are just following orders of their 'lord'. We just hope the Delhi Police realizes their potential and acts responsibly."

After the Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone went to JNU campus as solidarity with the students who got injured during the violence, social media was split into two sections. One section of which appealed to boycott her upcoming movie as a mark of protest against her move. This section also includes many BJP leaders such as Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga who were not in support of Deepika's visit to JNU.

Responding over the matter, Pawan Khera said, "They just know to indulge in petty social media polls and taking videos. Should she go to Nagpur, the Sangh headquarters to promote her movie? What they want this country to be? If there is unrest in the country, we expect our Prime Minister and Home Minister to address the people."
