Modi reacted late to coronavirus crisis: Akhilesh Singh

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not careful enough in the beginning when COVID-19 started spreading. He said situation would have been better in India as compared to other nations, had he been attentive during the initial days.

New Delhi: Former Union Minister and Congress Rajya Sabha MP Akhilesh Singh has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying had he been careful in the beginning, when coronavirus started spreading, the situation wouldn't have become so bad in India.

"Now, India is also in a dangerous situation like other countries. It would not have been so bad, had the Prime Minister been a bit more careful during the initial days," the Congress MP said in a video message.

He said the number of infected people is increasing in the country with each passing day, and the situation is turning bad to worse.

On Saturday, the country had total number of 7,529 infected people. The death toll due to the novel coronavirus was at 242. While the number of active COVID-19 cases is 6,634, as many as 652 people were cured and discharged and one had migrated, the official sources said.
