New Delhi: A 58-year-old man doused himself in petrol and tried to immolate himself near Delhi Police Headquarters but cops snatched the matchbox from him just in time.
According to sources, Sameer, a resident of Kardampuri in Jyoti Nagar, arrived at the headquarters at around 1 PM on Tuesday and tried to commit suicide as no action was taken on his several police complaints regarding his son's case.
"Sameer complained that Jyoti Nagar police station is not registering the complaint regarding his 25-year-old son's abduction and assault case. He alleged that though he had complained about the issue with police, no action was taken. After complaining several times with the police, he tried to kill himself in front of the police headquarters," a police official said.
"The victim alleging that one Alim and his associates abducted his son, Faizan on the night of 28 September and beaten him near Maujpur metro station. He is also alleging thaṭ no police enquiry has been started after his several complaints. We are looking into the matter and Jyoti Nagar police have started an investigation after registering a case," the official said.
There were cops present outside the police headquarters and they rushed and snatched the matchbox from him just in time. Police have also registered a case against her under IPC 309 (attempt to commit suicide). Further investigation is on, sources said.
