New Delhi: Thousands of daily wage workers and homeless people have been evacuated from Qudsia Ghat of the Yamuna river here and sent to shelters, established to look after poor people, by Delhi Police after being served food.
These people include homeless, who generally live on the streets, and daily wage workers, who have lost their work due to the on-going lockdown.
Their living together, when contagious coronavirus has been spreading like wildfire, could have been dangerous. The authorities have shifted them to safer places, where they could be looked after well.
The 21-day lockdown was extended by 19 more day by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday to combat coronavirus.
