New Delhi: Amid the speculations of major revamp within Congress, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath is likely to get a big responsibility in the party. On Thursday, Kamal Nath had a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi at her residence, 10 Janpath, in New Delhi. Interestingly, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was also present in the meeting.

According to the sources, Congress may soon begin the process of electing a new party president. A meeting of the Congress Working Committee is likely to be called after the Monsoon Session of Parliament. After that, an AICC Plenary Session is also expected in the month of August. In view of this, rumours are doing rounds that Kamal Nath may get the post of working president in the party as he is said to have a stronghold within the organisation.

It is also been said that Kamal Nath played a vital role in coordinating with some of the leaders of Group 23 with Congress president Sonia Gandhi after they had written a letter demanding an organisational overhaul within the party. Kamal Nath has been considered as one of the close aides of the Gandhi family. After the demise of Congress Treasurer Ahmed Patel, Kamal Nath is also fulfilling some of the key responsibilities within the party. He was a former union minister and has been Parliamentarian for nine times.
