New Delhi: The special cell of Delhi Police recently arrested an illegal arms supplier, who had provided over 1,000 weapons to criminals over the past decade.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pramod Kushwaha informed that the Special Cell had been constantly working on the smuggling of illegal weapons, and was on the lookout especially for those gangs who operated out of Madhya Pradesh and supplied weapons to the NCR area.
Kushwaha said that the special cell had busted several such gangs in the past.
Recently, the special cell received information that one such smuggler, Abdul Salam would come to the Kale Khan bus stand in the national capital with illegal weapons.
A police team then nabbed Salam from the spot, and seized 20 semi-automatic pistols, 40 magazines, and 50 live cartridges from him.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered against Salam under the Arms Act.

During questioning, Salam reportedly told the police that he had been involved in the illegal trade for the past 10 years and has supplied over 1,000 pistols till now. He sourced weapons from Sendhwa in Madhya Pradesh, and supplied it to NCR, and other towns in Uttar Pradesh like Hapur, Meerut, and Muzaffarnagar.
He reportedly said that he had come in contact with a weapon smuggler n 2010 and started working for him. Subsequently, he set up his own network and started supplying arms.
Pertinently, already 10 cases have been slapped against Salam for murder, attempt to murder, and offences under the Arms Act.
Earlier this year, two of his accomplices were also nabbed by the special cell, and 25 automatic pistols were seized from them.
