New Delhi: At a time when the deadly coronavirus has reached the national capital, Delhi BJP leader Tajinder Bagga on Wednesday requested the Delhi Police to temporarily halt breath analysis tests for drunk drivers, due to the highly contagious nature of the virus.
Bagga had written a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner, saying: "In light of the ongoing COVID-2019 (coronavirus) infection, to prevent further spread of the disease, I request you to please suspend the breath analysis test for drunk drivers."
He added, "Breath is one of the main reasons behind the spread of the virus. Once the situation normalises, you may resume this exercise in the national capital."
The first case of coronavirus in Delhi was detected on Monday.
Six suspected cases were also detected in Agra, who came in contact with the person from Delhi.
As of Wednesday, 28 cases of coronavirus have been reported across India, including 16 Italian nationals who have been quarantined.
So far, 3110 people have died across the world due to the deadly virus.
