New Delhi: Preparations are currently underway at Delhi's largest COVID-19 care centre with a planned capacity of 10,000 beds.

To take stock of the ground situation, ETV Bharat on Thursday reached the Radha Soami Beas centre in South Delhi's Chattarpur area, where the facility is coming up.

ITBP troopers are already present at the spot, as the Centre has entrusted the job to paramilitary force.

At present, a number of beds have already been put up at the centre. Each individual bed has been provided with a chair, dustbin, soap and drinking water.

Ceiling fans have also been fitted at the centre, where each bed is placed at a distance of around six feet from the other.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Mehrauli SDM Sonalika Jiwani said that installation of the air-conditioning system, along with flooring work has begun.

On the intake of patients, Jiwani said that the aim was to start operations from June 26 with 2,000 beds and subsequently start fully functioning with 10,000 beds by the first week of July.

"Our aim is to get 2,000 beds ready by tomorrow and start in-taking patients by day after tomorrow (June 27). We will increase the capacity phase-wise. 2,000 beds will be gradually added in each phase. We're aiming to get all 10,000 beds operational by the first week of July," she said.

Jiwani said that a proper strategy has been chalked out with regards to manpower for operating the massive centre.

"For the first 2,000 beds, the ITBP will handle operations with their own doctors, paramedic staff and nurses. We will provide them with the necessary equipment - either through procurement or CSR," she said.
