New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched an indigenous automatic train supervision system on the occasion of Engineer's Day on Tuesday. It will operate as a signalling system to run the metro without a pilot.
The system was launched in the presence of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra, DMRC MD Dr Mangu Singh, and Director of Bhartiya Electronics Limited Shikha Gupta.
According to DMRC chief spokesperson Anuj Dayal, pink and magenta lines will have the facilities to run metro trains without pilots in the third phase. It will act as a sub-system of a technical Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) system for running a pilot-less metro train.

On the occasion, Durga Shankar Mishra said that launching the system is a matter of pride as it will make India much stronger and self-reliant. Dr Mangu Singh termed this achievement as a major step towards the development of metro rail system operation.
As per sources, the computer-based system will be used first on the red line. Under the initiative of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry decided to develop indigenous CBTC technology and to take this project forward, DMRC and Bharat Electronics Limited have also signed an MoU.
