New Delhi: Despite the government appealing landlords to postpone rent collection by a month in the wake of coronavirus outbreak, students from Delhi University, staying as tenants, have accused their landlords of “harassing” them over rent.
A student named Laxmi, a student of Dr Zakir Hussain College, said in a video message that her landlord is harassing her for rent. She has also requested the state government to help her.
Another student Sneha, who studies at Hindu College, says that the owner of the PG facility she is living in is demanding rent from all the students occupying the PG.
Reportedly, all the colleges of Delhi University have been closed due to the nationwide lockdown. In such a situation, the students, who are staying outside the hostel with private rooms or PGs, are worried about the monthly rent.
Earlier, the Delhi government had said that landlords should not collect the rent, and they should postpone it if the tenants are unable to pay the rent.
