New Delhi: A prisoner was found dead under suspicious circumstances at jail number 3 on Wednesday morning, informed Tihar jail officials. The officials said the cause of death of prisoner Ankit Gujar is being ascertained. However, the relatives of the deceased staged a protest outside Tihar Jail number 3 alleging that the jail administration thrashed Ankit Gujar to death.
Accusing the jail administration, his family said that some officers tried to extort Rs 1 lakh from him but when he couldn't arrange, they thrashed him mercilessly leading to his death. They also raised slogans against the jail administration and lodged a complaint in Hari Nagar police station.
According to the police, Ankit Gurjar, a resident of Baghpat, was lodged in Tihar Jail for almost one year and several cases, including that for murder and robbery, were registered against him. The matter is being probed by the Metropolitan Magistrate. The cause behind the death of Ankit Gujar will be revealed after the autopsy," police said.
