New Delhi: As a humanitarian gesture, Delhi Police on Saturday cremated a retired Major General of the Afghanistan Army who was found dead at a New Delhi-based hotel on April 23.
According to the reports, Mohammad Rahim Vardhak, a retired army officer, came to India for the treatment of his wife Cobra Vardhak in early March this year.
Cobra, who is a cancer patient, was undergoing treatment at Appolo hospital in Delhi. During her treatment, she got infected with the coronavirus. Unaware of her husband's demise, she went to her country with the help of the Afghanistan embassy on April 24.

During the post-mortem, the covid result of the deceased army officer turned positive following which the family members were called for cremation. However, the family members indicated an inability of arriving in New Delhi due to health issues.
Following this, the Delhi police communicated the matter to the Afghanistan embassy on Saturday. Later, the retired Major General was cremated in New Delhi.
