Delhi: 'Inebriated' driver rams his car into e-rickshaw, 2 killed

Two persons including a woman were killed, while her husband and children were injured, after the e-rickshaw they were travelling in was rammed by a speeding car near Delight cinema in Delhi's Daryganj on Monday night, police said. The other deceased was the driver of the e-rickshaw.

New Delhi: Two persons, including a woman, were killed, while her husband and children were injured, after the e-rickshaw they were travelling in was rammed by a speeding car near Delight Cinema in Delhi's Daryganj on Monday night, police said. The other deceased was the driver of the e-rickshaw. Police said two people in the car were under the influence of alcohol.

The deceased are Reshma and the e-rickshaw driver Sheikh. According to the information received, on Monday night, Reshma was travelling back home on the e-rickshaw with her husband and their two children. When they reached near Delight Cinema, a speeding car hit the e-rickshaw from behind. The impact of the collision was such that the rickshaw turned turtle. Reshma and rickshaw driver Sheikh died on the spot, while the woman's husband and the children are undergoing treatment. Sources said the accused tried to flee the scene. However, those present at the spot chased them and handed them over to the police near Jama Masjid.

According to the police, the accused Darshan Lal, who was on the driver's seat, and another person Basant Kumar, who was present in the car were allegedly inebriated. The police later produced both the accused before the court from where they were sent to judicial custody.
