New Delhi: Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi was granted bail on Saturday noon in the defamation case filed by an RSS worker. He appeared in court in Patna for the case at 2 pm in the afternoon.
In a statement, he had said that the case was filed by his "political opponents" in the BJP-RSS to "harass and intimidate" him.
His bail is indirectly a reply to his opponents.
Gandhi's appearance in the court on Saturday came days after he as well as CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury pleaded not guilty in the case in Mumbai.
"I will appear in person at the Civil Court in Patna today at 2 PM, in yet another case filed against me by my political opponents in the RSS/BJP to harass & intimidate me. Satyameva Jayate," Gandhi said in a tweet.
Gandhi and Yechury, who pleaded not guilty in the case in the Mazgaon-Sewree metropolitan magistrate's court, faced a trial during which the court recorded their statements and that of the complainant as well as other witnesses. It was after this trial, that he was granted bail.
