New Delhi: Soon after Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Saturday said that one crore healthcare workers and two crore frontline workers would be given a free vaccine, the hospital staff appreciate the government's move and said that they will work now with a carefree mind.
Earlier in the day, the Health Minister had said that the vaccine will be free across the country. "Not just in Delhi, it will be free across the country," Vardhan said when asked for the government's position on the issue.
However, later he clarified that free vaccine will be limited to health workers and frontline staffs.
While speaking to ETV Bharat, Amit, GTB hospital supervisor said that he has been working tirelessly and has not taken a single leave from since the pandemic erupted in the country.
"We feel very happy after Dr Vardhan announced free vaccine for health workers. Earlier, our family members got scared whenever we reach home after completing the shift. Now, they are feeling relaxed, " added Amit.
The central government plans to vaccinate nearly 30 crore persons in the first phase of the immunisation drive. The vaccine will be administered to one crore healthcare workers, along with 2 crore frontline and essential workers, and 27 crore elderly, mostly above the age of 50 with comorbidities.
