Court to hear on demand for chargesheet against Sharjeel Imam

Karkardooma Court in Delhi would hear on the demand of charge sheet and other documents against Sharjeel Imam filed by Delhi police in connection with Delhi violence case. The Court had directed the investigating officer to file a reply.

New Delhi: Karkardooma Court in Delhi would hear on the demand of charge sheet and other documents against Sharjeel Imam filed by Delhi police in connection with Delhi violence case. Additional Sessions Judge, Amitabh Rawat would hear the matter.

The Court has taken cognizance of the charge sheet citing Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. On January 28, the Court directed the investigating officer to reply.

The Court took cognizance of the supplementary charge sheet filed against Omar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and Faizan Khan on 24 November 2020.

The supplementary charge sheet was filed on 22 November 2020 by Delhi police against Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and Faizan Khan. In the supplementary charge sheet, they were booked under Sections 13, 16, 17, and 18 of UAPA in addition to Sections 120B, 109, 124A, 147,148,149, 153A, 186, 201, 212, 295, 302, 307, 341, 353, of the Indian Penal Code.

In addition to 395,419,420,427,435,436,452,454, 468, 471 and 43, charges have been made under Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and Sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. Imam is accused of delivering hate speech and inciting violence against Central Government, which led to the Delhi violence in 2019.

Delhi police said that a conspiracy was hatched in the disguise of opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act. Sharjeel Imam was arrested from Bihar.

More than 750 cases were registered over the northeast Delhi violence that took place in February 2019 and claimed 53 lives.
