New Delhi: Amar Lata Sangwan, a Congress corporator, on Thursday instructed meat shops to remain closed till the completion of the Navaratri festival in Delhi.

Earlier, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi had asked the police to ensure that meat shops were shut till the end Navaratri. Despite notice, these shops were found running illegally. Later, Sangwan, along with the police, raided the Timarpur area and vacated the illegal meat shops.

According to Sangwan, the Timarpur area is flooded with illegal meat shops and the police are hand-in-glove with these business owners.

Meanwhile, the police warned of strict action if these shops are opened during Navaratri.
