New Delhi: While the Indian Youth Congress came on the roads to protest against the conduct of JEE and NEET, on Wednesday, the National Student's Union of India (NSUI) began an indefinite hunger strike demanding the postponement of these exams.

IYC members staged a symbolic protest outside Ministry of Education, at Shastri Bhawan, where many of them got detained by the Delhi Police. The Congress Youth Wing wanted to submit a memorandum to the Ministry, demanding a postponement of exams.

IYC President Srinivas BV said, "At a time when even Union Ministers and Chief Ministers are getting infected with coronavirus, it is unthinkable that Center is not postponing the JEE and NEET exams."

He further added, "Conducting exam is a necessary step but not by putting the lives of millions of students at risk. There is a need for logical and comprehensive strategy to deal with Coronavirus but Central government is deliberately taking the risk instead of focusing on it."

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also raised this issue in his tweet, saying, "NEET-JEE aspirants are worried about their health and future. They have genuine concerns of- fear of: COVID-19 infection, transport and lodging during pandemic, flood-mayhem in Assam and Bihar. GOI must listen to all stakeholders and find an acceptable solution."
