New Delhi: The four convicts of the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case are scheduled to be hanged at 5.30 am on March 20.
Speaking in this regard, social activist Yogita Bhayana said that she is confident that the convicts will be hanged on this date. "This should neither be changed or postponed, or it will deliver a wrong message to the society," Bhayana said.
It is to be noted that Yogita Bhayana who deals with sexual assault cases and provides help to victims in Delhi NCR.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, she congratulated women across the country on the occasion of International Women's Day. She said that it is important for the government to act firmly on the issue of women security in the country. "Unless and until the women in the country are not safe, the number of crimes against them will not decrease," she said.
Bhayana has been fighting for justice to Nirbhaya for years now. "I have been fighting for a long time for Nirbhaya, standing by her mother and supporting her," she said, adding that "any further change in the date of execution will emanate a wrong message to the society."
She went on to say that "We as women are losing our faith in the judiciary, it is important that the convicts are given the punishment they deserve at the latest."
The Nirbhaya case pertains to the gang-rape and brutalising of a 23-year-old paramedical student in a moving bus on the night of December 16, 2012, by six people including a juvenile in Delhi. The woman had died at a Singapore hospital a few days later.
