New Delhi: Preparations are on to set up North India's first cold storage facility for the coronavirus vaccine at Delhi's Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, official sources said.
Machines, which would be put together to create the facility, have started reaching the hospital and a dedicated utility block of the hospital is being used for the same.
As many as 90 deep freezers of 120-watt each would be placed in the two dedicated rooms of the building. The machines are of 12/9 feet of size, they said.
The next instalment of the machines is expected to reach the hospital on December 25.
Almost all arrangements have been made to install the machines in the hospital, the sources added.
The facility, once ready, could store one crore dosages of the vaccine. The building has three floors with seven rooms. There would be two rooms for the cold chain whereas three rooms would be for deep freezers. One room would be used by the workers and the officials of the facility.
On the first floor also, two rooms would have deep freezers and would be used to store 25 lakh syringes. Rest of the rooms would be used for office space. Rest 75 lakh syringes would be kept in rooms on the second floor.
Earlier, only ground and first floors were to be used to create the facility but in view of a huge number of dosages, the second floor of the building was also included.
