Charge-sheet in northeast Delhi violence case to be filed today

Charge-sheet in connection with the violence that took place in Chand Bagh and Jafrabad areas of northeast Delhi will be filed before a court on Tuesday.

New Delhi: The Special Investigative Team (SIT) of Delhi Police on Tuesday will file charge-sheet at Karkardooma Court against suspended AAP Councillor, Tahir Hussain his brother and fifteen other perpetrators in connection with the violence that took place in Chand Bagh area of north-east Delhi on February 24.

Sources in Delhi police said that the nearly 1000-page charge-sheet is based on the statement of witnesses and forensic evidence. Meanwhile, a charge-sheet has already been filed against Shahrukh Pathan, who had allegedly opened fire on head constable Deepak Dahiya during the violence in northeast Delhi.

Further, Tahir is also accused in the murder case of IB staffer Ankit Sharma in which more than 10 people have been taken into custody. According to sources, over 700 FIRs have been lodged and the SIT has detained more than 2,500 people.

In February earlier this year, clashes had broken out in the northeast area of Delhi between the groups supporting and opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which led to the deaths of at least 53 people.
