New Delhi: The BJP on Tuesday said that the Delhi Waqf Board's decision to hike the salary of Imams of the mosques was a violation of the Model Code of Conduct.
Taking a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party, the saffron party said that they would file a complaint with the EC as the move was aimed at "appeasing" the minority community.
BJP leader Vijender Gupta said, "In the wake of elections, Arvind Kejriwal is trying to favour one section of the society which is against the code of conduct."
AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan announced to increase the wages of all the Imams in Delhi from February and March retrospectively on April 27. Salary checks were also issued to some on the very same day.
Gupta also said that 33 employees were appointed on posts of clerks, junior engineers, accountant, legal assistant, etc in violation of Waqf Board Act on April 8. "In all these appointments, neither advertisements were released nor qualifications were checked," he added.
Voting in Delhi will be held for 7 Lok Sabha seats in a single phase on May 12, 2019.
