New Delhi: Underlining its pre-poll stand on chief ministership in Bihar, the BJP on Wednesday reiterated that Nitish Kumar will be sworn-in as the next chief minister of the state even if JD(U)'s poor performance in the just-concluded polls.
Interacting with ETV Bharat here, BJP national spokesperson Gopal Krishna Agarwal said that the party leadership had made it clear even before the Bihar Assembly polls that Nitish Kumar will remain the chief minister.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president J P Nadda had said that Nitish Kumar will continue to head the government in the state," he said, adding that it was also mentioned that even if the JD(U) does not get more seats, Kumar will remain the head of the state government.
The NDA has secured an absolute majority in Bihar, winning 122 seats in a closely contested election. The Mahagathbandhan of RJD, Congress, and Left parties got 110 seats in the state's 243-seat legislative assembly. While the BJP played a big role in the NDA's victory by winning 72 seats, the RJD also performed well and bagged 75 seats to emerge as the single largest party in the Bihar legislative assembly.
