New Delhi: BJP MP Manoj Tiwari received injuries on Tuesday during a protest against the Delhi government for imposing a ban on public gatherings in the Chhath Puja celebration in the national capital.

In the meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority held last week, it was decided that gathering will not be allowed during the Chhath Puja in view of the Covid pandemic. Following the decision various Chhath Puja committee heads reached to the BJP leader with their worries.

After acknowledging their worries Tiwari said, "We would conduct a Rath Yatra to know the opinion of the people. In the last three days, the yatra has been crossed through Purvanchal dominated areas during which people have been consulted on how to celebrate puja while preventing infection."

On Tuesday when the yatra reached CM's house, party workers along with Manoj Tiwari and Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta raised a slogan to lift bans on the puja celebration and tried to cross the security barricades during the protest. Following which police used water cannon to stop the protestors which led Manoj Tiwari to fall under a security barricade. After that Tiwari was admitted to Safdarjung hospital.

Earlier Speaking to ETV Bharat Manoj Tiwari had said,"1.80 crores people of Delhi have been vaccinated. A weekly market, metro, bus, theatre, liquor shops etc. are functioning, then why can't we celebrate Chhath with Covid norms? It is completely wrong not to allowed people to celebrate puja. People have learned to follow the guidelines. Preparations for the Chhath festival have started in other states of the country also."

"If permission has been given to organise Ramlila and celebrate Dussehra in the national Capital, then why not Chhatth puja? Religious sentiments of Purvanchalis living in Delhi have been hurt due to the ban on the mass gathering of the Chhath festival. Permission should be given to organizing this great festival," he added.
