New Delhi: Basant Panchami was celebrated with great pomp at the famous Sufi old Khwaja Sayyid Mohammad Nizamuddin Auliya (R A) of Hindustan where a large number of people from all religions participated. People prayed that peace and prosperity should prevail in the country.
Every year on Basant Panchami people from various religion comes in large numbers at the Dargah Sharif and offers yellow flowers and sheets. On this auspicious occasion, songs of Aamir Khusro are sung in the Dargah. It is believed that to please his Pir Nizamuddin Auliya Aamir Khusro wore yellow garment. Khusro offered his Pir yellow flowers and sung songs to impress him.

The dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya was echoed by Aamir Khusro's 'Aaj Basant Man Le Le Suhagan Aaj Bas Spring Man Le'. Entire Dargah was decorated with dotted yellow flowers and it seemed as if spring has graced our mother Earth. On the occasion of Basant Panchami, Dargah Sharif was in yellow color and on the other hand Zarine added up to it. The Qawwals made it even more special by dressing in yellow costumes. People from all religions offer yellow sheets and flowers at the Zarine Dargah.
Chief Incharge of Dargah Sharif Haji Sayyid Mohammad Kashif Ali Nizami said that on almost all Chishti Dargahs, a Basant Mubarak program is organized on the occasion of Basant Panchami. The festival of Basant Panchami is of great importance to the Hindus. This day is celebrated as the origin of Saraswati, the goddess of learning. Kashif Nizami said that this program has been organized at the dargah for 700 years.
