New Delhi: Noted academician at the European Academy of Sciences and Special Advisor, environmental and physical planning to the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Dr Dragan Jovanov told ETV Bharat on Monday that "scientifically proven Ayush and Ayurveda medicine can work against the Covid-19 disease."

The statement made by Dr Jovanov has further substantiated the claim made by scientists working at the Indian medicine of Ayush and Aurevda that their findings can work against SARS-CoV-2.

Dr Jovanov who deals with Phytomedicine (herbal medicine) further claimed that scientifically proven Ayush and Ayurveda medicine can treat Covid patients.

The Union Ministry of Ayush has recently announced that 'Ayush 64', a poly-herbal formulation developed by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) could help meaningfully treat “asymptomatic, mild and moderate Covid-19 infections as an adjunct to standard care”.

The ministry claimed after Ayush researchers had conducted a randomised controlled clinical trial with 70 participants in each arm (placebo arm and treatment arm) at three centres. They had reportedly demonstrated significant improvement and a lower period of hospitalisation as compared to treatment by the standard of care alone.

Dr Jovanov who is dealing with Phytomedicine said that it is a science in which the healing properties of plants are studied and is a method of treatment, maintenance and prevention of diseases and ailments using whole medicinal plants or their parts (root, leaf, flower, etc.) in the form of teas, tinctures, essential oils and extracts.

“By using medicinal plants in the body, you bring essential substances for your health (essential oils, vitamins, natural antioxidants, flavonoids, minerals, enzymes, etc.) and satisfy only important segments of the complex human biological system, thus strengthening your body, it becomes more resistant, you improve metabolic processes and remove harmful substances from the body and there is no deficiency of the most necessary substances. The success is great,” said Dr Jovanov who educates children and adults on the benefit of phytomedicine in the long run.

He said that modern phytomedicine is not “alternative medicine”, but part of scientific medicine and forms the basis for prevention and assistance in maintaining, improving and treating various diseases that attack the body.

Dr Jovanov who works with different Indian institutions and associations said that to use nature more, people need to work on their consciousness and frequent education of the population from the youngest to the oldest is required.

“People living in rural areas often resort to natural remedies first, as opposed to those living in downtown areas. With the use of Phytomedicine, success in patients is inevitable. Of course, only with responsible patients, because the treatment with modern Phytomedicine is thorough, gradual and not simple, there is a system, a program with different diagnoses, the approach is different,” he said.
