'Anti-CAA protest is a long fight, we will continue with it'

Protesters at Shaheen Bagh stated that the 'anti-CAA protest' was a long fight and they were ready to continue with it even if it goes on till 2024, the year of Lok Sabha election. They also appealed to the people to maintain peace.

New Delhi: People protesting against the amended citizenship law, CAA, at Shaheen Bagh in the national capital seem to be in no mood to give up their struggle even as the Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned till March 23, the hearing on pleas challenging the ongoing protests.

Reposing 'full faith' in the top court, a woman protester, while taking to ETV Bharat, said that the protest would go on till the government revoked the controversial citizenship law.

"We have full faith in the Supreme Court and we hope the decision would be in our favour one day," she said, adding that the protesters were in a battle with the government and they were ready to continue with it even till 2024, the year of next Lok Sabha elections.

"It's a fight to save the constitution of the country. We have Hindus, Christians, Sikhs and all other communities supporting us in our cause," she said.

On being asked about the rioting incidents in northeast parts of the capital city, the woman said people and leaders who make inflammatory speeches must be booked.

BJP leader Kapil Mishra should be booked as he made provocative speech right before the riots in parts of the city, she said.

Also, when asked to comment on US President Donald Trump's reaction on the current situation concerning the CAA, she said he was a guest and even if he said something on the matter, 'it does not matter as we have nothing to do with him'.

"Our fight is against the government (on the issue of CAA) and it will go on uninterrupted for a long time," she added.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the CAA related violence in the city has gone up to 20 with many more injured being in critical condition.
