New Delhi: The ancient Hanuman temple at Chandni Chowk market area in Delhi was demolished by the Delhi government's PWD department on Sunday.
The temple was reportedly demolished at around 4 AM as part of the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Plan.
Meanwhile, politics has also intensified in the national capital regarding this issue.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, local councillor Ravi Kaptan said that the Delhi government is doing the 'pick and choose' politics in the name of the development plan.
He also said, "On one side the Shishganj gurudwara has been given additional space at Bhai Mati Das Chowk whereas on the other hand, playing with the faith of Hindus, the Delhi government has demolished the Hanuman temple."
Kaptan further said that the Delhi government is doing politics in the wake of upcoming Punjab elections.
"The additional land was given to the gurudwara so that Delhi government can take advantage of it in Punjab elections," he alleged.
