New Delhi: The global human rights body Amnesty International has called detention of political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir troubling. It has also sought their immediate release and restoration of the communication.
In its statement, Amnesty International India's Executive Director Aakar Patel said: "For the 22nd day in a row, life has been derailed for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The communication blockade and security clampdown, the alleged detention of political leaders and restrictions on media report has created an information black hole in Jammu and Kashmir."
He even went on to claim that depriving an entire population of their right to freedom of expression, opinion and movement for an indefinite period against the international norms.
NC's Omar Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti have been in detention from August 5, when Modi government decided to modify Article 370. While Omar has been kept at Hari Niwas Palace, Mehbooba is being detained at the J&K Tourism Development hut in Chashmeshahi Srinagar.
