Accused escapes from police custody in Maharashtra, nabbed in Delhi

Sijo Chandran, an accused, who had escaped from police custody in Nagpur in Maharashtra on May 16, has been arrested by the Delhi police late last night.

New Delhi: An accused, who had escaped from police custody in Nagpur in Maharashtra on May 16, has been arrested by the Delhi police late last night. The accused has been identified as Sijo Chandran.

"The accused person, Sijo was arrested and lodged in Nagpur jail. On May 16, he was taken to Nagpur DHH for medical checkup. While going to the hospital, Sijo complained of the toilet. The police van halted alongside the road. After getting down from the van, he pushed the escort policemen and ran away," a police official said.

The cops immediately launched a manhunt and alerted other state police officials about the incident.

Following this, Delhi police swung into action and later traced the accused person from Delhi's Dakshinpuri area, the official said.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he had committed crimes in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh and already 6 cases were registered against him.

The Maharashtra Police have also been informed about the arrest of accused Sijo Chandran, an official added.
