New Delhi: About 80 medical staff, including their family members, in Delhi's Saroj Super Speciality Hospital have tested positive for the Covid-19 while a surgeon died of the infection on Saturday after being vaccinated.

The deceased identified as Dr AK Rawat, despite being vaccinated for more than a month, contracted the virus last month.

The hospital's Chief Medical Officer Dr PK Bhardwaj said Dr Rawat had received the second shot of the Covishield vaccine at the beginning of March.

He was initially in home isolation but had to be shifted to the hospital when his oxygen level started dipping, after contracting Covid about 10-12 days ago, Dr Bharadwaj said.

Speaking to the media, Rajesh Bhardwaj, an official of the hospital, said that some media channels have reported that 80 doctors of Saroj Hospital have tested positive which is fake.

"About 80 health workers, including doctors, nurses, ward boys and their family members have tested positive for the Covid-19 at Saroj Hospital. The reports of only as many doctors tested positive are absolutely fake," he clarified.

On Sunday, Delhi reported 273 coronavirus deaths along with 13,336 fresh Covid-19 infections. Many of the health workers are now admitted to the hospital for treatment while the rest of the doctors who are Covid positive are in-home quarantine.

Meanwhile, the death of Dr Rawat left the medical fraternity stunned.
