180 Sikh and Hindu families from Afghanistan arrive in Delhi

180 people including Sikh and Hindu families arrived in Delhi from Afghanistan on Friday. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, President of the World Punjabi Organization informed that 500 Sikhs and Hindu families stranded in Kabul have been evacuated so far.

New Delhi: A batch of 180 Sikh and Hindu families from Afghanistan arrived at the IGI airport in Delhi on Friday, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, President of the World Punjabi Organization said.

He further added that with this last charter flight, his organisation has evacuated 500 Sikhs and Hindu families stranded in Kabul. "We will provide accommodation to all these people in need. For this purpose three quarantine centers have been made for these refugees at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj, Moti Bagh and Bangla Sahib," Sahney said.

Sahney also revealed that all the refugee families have been sponsored by various NRI Sikhs in USA, UK, Middle East and members of the World Punjabi Organization under the "Mere Parivar Mera Samman" program.

Vikramjit Sahney announced that his NGO, Sun Foundation will provide free skills and training to all young Afghan Sikhs and Hindus at the newly setup World Class Skill Center at the Jail Road ITI campus.

Sahney also extended a token of thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for having assured that these refugees would be given permanent residency and Indian citizenship.
