New Delhi: As many as 138 foreigners related to Tablighi Jamaat are yet to get their passports, which were confiscated by the Delhi Police from them for attending the religious congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz event in the national capital allegedly in violation of visa conditions, back.
Official sources said the remaining 138 foreigners would have to fulfill the required legal conditions in a court of law before they could get their passports back from the city police.
In March, thousands of people, foreigners and Indians, had gathered at Nizamuddin Markaz to attend the religious congregation despite the government issuing guidelines for prevention of coronavirus infection.
They were chargesheeted for attending the religious congregation in violation of visa conditions and the government guidelines, issued in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

A number of them, however, have already left for their respective countries as the court had granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 each. Last month, a Delhi court had allowed 121 people from Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh to walk free on payment of Rs 5,000 each, after they accepted mild charges under the plea bargain process, related to various violations including visa norms while attending Tablighi Jamaat event during the COVID-19 lockdown.
