New Delhi : Operation Kaveri has picked up momentum and a total of Indian 1,191 passengers have been evacuated safely from Sudan till now. However, the Indian authorities have quarantined over 117 evacuees as they are found unvaccinated against yellow fever, official sources said. The officials said that these returnees will be released after seven days of quarantine provided they continue to be asymptomatic.
According to an official press release, the Indian government is stepping up its efforts to evacuate its citizens considering the relentless bloodshed in Sudan. Reports said that fighting continued raging between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and there were non-stop violations of the ceasefire.
Earlier, a total of 365 Indians were brought from Sudan on Saturday evening and they landed in New Delhi. The joy and relief of Indian evacuees knew no bounds after being brought from the war-torn country. They burst into vocal praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar. The EAM has tweeted about the ongoing evacuation of the Indians.

India's Operation Kaveri was aimed at rescuing over 3,000 Indians from battle-ridden Sudan. The stranded Indians were being from Port Sudan to the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah from where they were being airlifted to New Delhi. Indian Navy has joined to help in augmenting Operation Kaveri.
The situation in Sudan remained volatile forcing the respective foreign countries to evacuate their citizens from there. The current Indian rescue operation in Sudan is named Kaveri possibly because most of the Indians working or settled in Sudan are from the southern parts of India, sources said.
