Narayanpur: Six personnel of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were killed and two others injured in an exchange of fire among themselves in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district on Wednesday, police said.
The incident took place at the Kadenar camp of ITBP's 45th battalion in Narayanpur, located around 350 km from here, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P said.
As per preliminary information, an ITBP jawan allegedly fired at his colleagues with his service weapon, killing six of them and injuring two others.
ITBP jawans who died in the incident: Head Constable Mahendra Singh, Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, Head Constable Daljit Singh, Ludhiana, Punjab, Constable Surjit Sarkar, Burdwan, West Bengal, Constable Biswaroop Mahtoo,Purulia, West Bengal, Constable Bijeesh, Kozhikode, Kerala, Constable Masudul Rahman, Nadia, West Bengal (who fired upon others jawans)
ITBP jawans injured in the incident: Constable S.B.Ullas, Tiruvandaapuram, Kerala and Constable Sitaram Doon, Nagaur, Rajasthan
Later, the jawan who opened fire was also gunned down. The injured personnel were being shifted to the hospital.
Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg rushed to the spot.
