Acid attack: 12 including bride, groom injured in marriage ceremony in Bastar

The unidentified assailant threw acid on the dais wherein 12 persons including the bride and groom were injured when there was a power outage at the wedding venue.

Bastar: Unidentified miscreants threw acid on the wedding dais injuring 12 persons including the bride and groom in Chattisgarh's Bastar on Wednesday, officials said. The attack took place at around 7 pm at a wedding event arranged in Chote Ambal area of the district.

Police said there was a power outage when the miscreant unleashed the attack and no one has been detained in connection with the attack. The injured victims were rushed to Bhanpuri Primary Health Center for treatment following which they were admitted to Maharani Hospital. The police said a probe is on to identify the assailant.

There was a power outage at around 7 pm when the marriage ceremony organised at Chote Amabal area was underway. As the relatives were scrambling to get the power back on to proceed with the ceremony, the assailant who was present among the wedding guests attacked those present in the dais, police quoted the eyewitness as saying.

There was a huge hue and cry in the venue as the relatives, bride and groom suffered burns in the acid attack. The injured were immediately taken to Bhanpuri Primary Health Centre for treatment. After the first aid was provided, the doctors referred the injured to Maharani Hospital for further case.

On information, the police rushed to the wedding venue in Chote Ambal. They also visited those injured in the acid attack. Since it was dark, identifying the culprit behind the attack has become a challenge, a police official said. Bhanpuri Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) Ghanshyam Kambde said a case has been registered and further investigation is on.

Earlier this month, a spurned lover weaved a conspiracy to take revenge on his girlfriend by gifting her a home theatre system fitted with explosives as her wedding gift. This home theatre ended up killing the girl's husband and brother-in-law. Five others including a one and a half year old child were seriously injured in this explosion.
